If you treat your spouse as if they can/will never leave you, then the chances of them actually leaving (physically or emotionally) will increase.
The mentality of: "Well he's stuck with me, whether or not he likes it" destroys marriages. It is also a great excuse for:
1. Gaining weight.
2. Being rude, mean, or inconsiderate
3. Not having or withholding sex.
4. Not working a problem out.
5. Not changing a habit the other finds irritating or an apparent character flaw.
I hope I always treat our marriage as if Josh could leave. I know that he isn't going to, but I don't want to give him a reason to ever want to.
